Conference on Media Influence on Nightlife in Brussels on October 2010

Club Health EU project - where many Prevnet members are active - will organise during the Belgian EU-presidency together with other organisations a conference on “Media influence on nightlife”.

The topics are party drugs and other nightlife stuff influenced by media such as newspapers and facebook. Also twitter & Facebook • crowd control • alcohol media representation • journalism • interventions impact • nightlife alcohol and drugs • club health • prevention • peer support • tourism • legal highs

The conference will be held at Kuregem cellars, Brussels, on Wednesday and Thursday 13-14 October 2010.

Nightlife is a big thing in modern life. It is a critical part of youth recreation and a major source of employment, economic development and tourism for towns and cities. But nightlife action also creates a wide range of health and social problems including alcohol and drug use, anti-social behaviour and crime. All kinds of media gain importance today; also in nightlife they have great importance.

Mass media create values, often at odds with public health and safety. They also mediate globalization of lifestyles. The Brussels conference delivers European key figures on media, nightlife and public health. Research, inside views, testimonies and policy reviews provide data to promote the debate at European level. Club Health disseminates methodologies for the sensitization of media to promote healthy and safe lifestyles among young people.
