Early Intervention in Europe - FreD goes net and other innovative projects of prevention

International conference in Muenster, Germany on October 6th and 7th, 2010

The Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe Coordination Office for Drug-Related Issues and 17 European partners close their three-year EU project “FreD goes net“ in the frame of an international conference.

The project “FreD goes net” is based on the German intervention model “FreD - Early Intervention for First Noticed Drug Offenders”. FreD goes net is the transfer of the “classic” project approach to various European countries and includes close cooperation with the police or the judicial system in case of conspicuous consumption of illegal drugs (mostly cannabis). Apart from this the project comprises a further development of access routes with respect to risky alcohol consumption and also an expansion of the settings school and workplace which refer young persons at risk to drug counseling services.

How was FreD implemented in the 12 pilot countries? Have the access routes been expanded successfully? Which further innovative projects of early intervention can prevention work benefit from?

Besides lectures regarding the project realisation and evaluation the participating partners will present their work in the so-called „country rooms“. On the second conference day further interesting good practice projects of early intervention from different European countries will be presented. Finally Gregor Burkhart of the EMCDDA in Lisbon will give recommendations for a successful continuation of the early intervention approach in Europe.
