New energy in the network activities!

Dear members of the Prevnet network,

During the last two years questions about future steps and applications for membership from interested organisations and institutes all over the European Union have not stopped. The lack of necessary funding of activities, however,  has limited our activities thoroughly.

The board of directors was able, to my satisfaction, to meet recently in order to look for feasible ways to respond to the above mentioned questions and to pave the way for changes and progress. Today I am happy to announce three major actions.

ONE: LEADERSHIP AND EXCHANGE OF INSTRUMENTS

The A-Clinic Foundation, continuous inspirer of all Prevnet steps, is able and ready to take the lead of actions, host and revive the www.prevnet.net website and bring members in contact with each other in order to exchange useful telematic instruments. Teuvo Peltoniemi, Heikki Bothas and Roel Kerssemakers (Netherlands) will conduct this component, and Gabi Dobusch (Germany) takes care of the evaluation aspects.

TWO: PREPARING AN APPLICATION FOR EU-FUNDING

The A-Clinic Foundation will invest in submitting an application for funding to relevant funding agencies of the EU-commission. Appropriate calls for application are expected to be published this autumn in regard to the Drug Programme and in February 2008 in the case of DGSanco,  application date expected to be in May 2008. We will apply for co-funding of concrete projects and graspable telematic products, using the Prevnet network of so many institutes. Heikki Bothas, Paolo Deluca (UK) and Matej Kosir (Slovenia) will conduct together this action.

THREE: ORGANISING A PREVNET CONFERENCE.

Although our network concerns using the internet and other digitally driven instruments to improve prevention, we cannot work together without meeting also face-to-face. Capacity building, confronting and exchanging innovations, effective tools and products is the focus of a conference scheduled in December 2008. After the past conferences of Athens and Dublin, the place of the action will be the capital of our European Union, Brussels,  De Sleutel hosting the conference. Peer van der Kreeft and Michal McDonalds (Ireland) will prepare the conference.

This revival of activities goes together with the shift of the leadership over the network, in order to have clear and efficient decision lines. A-Clinic Foundation will in this context take over the presidency from De Sleutel. New roles, independent from task divisions in the project application-in-preparation, are:

Teuvo Peltoniemi - President

Heikki Bothas –  Executive vice president

Peer van der Kreeft and – Senior vice president

Roel Kerssemakers, Paolo Deluca, Matej Kosir, Gabi Dobusch and Michal McDonald – board members.

These shifts are in operation as of today. I wish Teuvo and Heikki all the luck in their efforts to improve the efficacy and quality of the Prevnet network, trying to improve prevention through the .net!

Yours faithfully,

Peer van der Kreeft
head of prevention, De Sleutel
